Why do we do this?

One of the most pertinent issues in the future of community development is the dealing with diversity and the ever changing challenges of our communities, whether they are rural, suburban, or urban. As our neighborhoods become more multi-ethnic we must be able to respond with new leadership and news means of communication. It is also certain that there is untapped potential in their young people and a vacuum of leadership. Thus, there is a need for a program that reaches out to young people in these communities and nurtures their talent as potential emerging leaders. The future of our world depends on attracting more talented people from all communities, all cultures, and all walks of life. Urban Leadership is one step in the right direction as it attempts to identify and nurture urban youths as a new generation of leaders.

Urban Leadership has four goals

     1. To transform and empowers high school-aged youth to become leaders in their community

     2. Develop leaders who serve and reflect the growing diversity of thier communities

     3. To prepare emerging leaders to understand thier unique motivation, talent, and capacity to lead

     4. To identify leaders to serve both local and global communities through social innovation

Urban Leadership displays four distinct qualities

     1. Our unique approach with a focus on diversity or multi-ethnic leadership

     2. The curriculum involves teaching to multiple intelligences through experiential education, including simulations with emotional, and bodily/ kinesthetic, approaches.

     3.  We use both traditional and most current insights in leadership theory and practice with instructors well versed in the art

     4. We believe that the highest calling is service and all aquired leadership should be used to better serve humanity
